introduction

Children in Year 6 are given more responsibilities and take on an important role across the school. They are the role models for our school. Y6 leaders are voted for by the whole school - the head boy and head girl positions are voted for, as well as other Y6 leader positions. The Year 6s also apply to be school buddies to help and support children on the playground.

If you would like to contact your child's class teacher, you are welcome to talk to them at drop off and pick up times, or contact them at:

Before Christmas, Year 3 performed to their parents several songs learnt during their music lessons. The songs performed were inspired by the charity single performed by Band Aid. This was part of their learning experience, ‘How can we use music to make the world a better place?’ The children learnt about how children’s lives across the world can be very different to their own and how we can all make a difference to others’ lives by raising awareness and money to help them. We would like to say thank you to all who were able to attend and for all the kind donations raised for our chosen charity, Mary’s Meals.

Year 3/4 Girls Football Cockington 2-1 Warberry Cockington 0-1 Warberry Goals Remy , Thea B-B POTM Thea B-B Thea A We played our second ever Year 3/4 Girls match against Warberry. The girls were very excited, and it was lovely to see the games played in such an amazing atmosphere. In the first game, we won 2-1 thanks to goals from Remy and Thea B-B, who both scored their first goals ever! In the second game, we narrowly lost 1-0. But the girls remained in high spirts and no one can take away that first ever win. POTM was awarded to Thea B-B for scoring the winning goal and, in the second, Thea A for some amazing defending and not being afraid to get stuck in. Just like to thank the parents who stayed out in the wind and rain for their constant support - not just this match but all the matches we play at Cockington. Well done, all!

SFA Football Tournament Girls Cockington 1-0 Shiphay Cockington 3-1 Sherwell Goals Phoebe, Mila, Poppy, OG We travelled to South Devon College to compete in the ESFA Tournament. We started our games against Shiphay. It was a very cagey game, but we ended winning the game 1-0 thanks to a composed finisher from Mila after some great work from Phoebe. In the second game, we faced Sherwell knowing a win would see us represent Torbay in the next round of the ESFA Tournament. We started bright, racing into a 2-0 lead at half time with a great poacher goal from Phoebe. Just after half time, Poppy grabbed her first goal for school after a great team move. Sherwell grabbed a consolation goal right before the end. We ended ESFA Torbay Champions - this team is special! Boys Cockington 0-1 Sherwell Cockington 0-2 Shiphay Cockington 3-1 Warberry Goals Leo x 2 , Marek Playing at the same time as the girls, the boys were on the end of an unfortunate 1-0 loss against Sherwell. We played on the front foot and hit the woodwork twice. For our second game, we lost 2-0 to a strong Shiphay side (the overall winners). We ended the day against Warberry and boys finished strong. Leo scored 2, including a no look penalty, and Marek calmly slotted a third past the keeper. Well done, all!

Year 5/6 Girls Football Cockington B 1-3 Warberry Goal Anabel POTM Anabel For the first time, we entered our year 5/6 B Team into the cup competition. Both teams started strong and were both cancelling each other out. However, Warberry went into half time with a 2-0 lead. The girls remained positive and continued to attack Warberry. After going 3-0 down, our POTM Anabel raced up the pitch and calmly scooped the ball over the on-rushing keeper and nestled it into the bottom corner. We look forward to our next game in the cup. Cockington B 1-1 Warberry Goal Emily POTM Emily With this fixture included, we have had all 36 girls in football club representing the school football team! It’s been brilliant to see some of the girls were playing their first games ever. All the girls gave their all, with some particularly notable defending. Our goal was scored by Emily who spent the majority of the game in defence. Near the end of the match, she got on the end of a corner by Jaime-Leigh and smashed the ball into the net. Emily earned our POTM for being an amazing all-rounder and fully deserved her goal. Well done, all.

What a super day we have had hosting our annual Christmas Courtyard. The Cockington PTA organised prizes and games for the children and Father Christmas even took time out of his busy schedule! We had rain, sun and even snow! Thank you to everyone who gave children some money to spend, which will go back to the PTA for funds for the school. Merry Christmas from Cockington Primary School.

At the beginning of the Autumn Term, Year 4 had great fun learning about states of matter. The children learnt that when baking soda and vinegar are mixed together, it creates a gas called carbon dioxide. The gas begins to expand in the bottle and starts to inflate the balloon. The more gas that is created, the larger the balloon will inflate!

Year 5/6 Girls Football Cockington 4-0 Shiphay Goals Phoebe x2 Mila Lacey POTM Marla For our first cup game of the season, we welcomed Shiphay to Torre Valley North. The game started with both teams trying to control the game. Lacey scored with a neat finish to make Cockington lead at half time. In the second half, Phoebe scored twice to put the game out of sight. A powerful run from Mila, and a composed finish, ended the scoring. POTM was given to Marla for always being on her toes, sweeping well in goal and winning the ball back numerous times in the second half. A great start to hopefully return to Plainmoor next year! Well done, all.
