Mrs Green from SwisCo came into school last week to take some photos of our school councillors dressed as crossing patrol officers. This is part of a campaign to recruit someone for the Avenue Road vacancy that has been advertised for a while now.
If you know of anyone that would be interested in the role, please see the vacancies section on the Torbay Council website.
Thank you!

Rudolph Run update!
Debbie from Rowcroft came in last week to say a massive thank you for the money we raised during our Rudolph Runs. She told us about the many jobs at Rowcroft, and what the money that is raised goes towards. Children enjoyed representing the roles in the assembly.
Well done and thank you for your donations!

During our World Book Day, all of the children used their ‘Creative Colin’ school value to design an amazing reading space. We look forward to using some of their fabulous ideas to improve and develop our reading areas at Cockington. Here are the designs of our finalists. A child from KS1 and a child from KS2 both received a book voucher for their imaginative designs.

Year 5/6 Girls Football
Cockington A 2 - 0 Barton A
Goals
Lacey x2
POTM
Lacey
After both teams finished top two in the league before Christmas, this was always going to be a difficult game. It started very cagey, with both teams attacking each other and defending excellently. The breakthrough came just before half time when Lacey pounced on the rebound and put us ahead at the break. Halfway through the second half, a great team move was finished by Lacey again, giving us some breathing space. With minutes to go, Marla produced a fantastic save, tipping the ball round the post from a point-blank volley, keeping her clean sheet. POTM went to Lacey for being the match winner and amazing hard work in the middle of the pitch.
Cockington B 1-1 Barton B
Goals
Emily
POTM
Amelia
Amazing spirit was shown in this game with many of the girls playing for the first time in months and some playing their first game. We scored early from an amazing strike from Emily on the edge of the box, hitting the roof of the net. Our brand-new defence of Ruby and Amelia did very well, stopping all attacks coming at them. After half time, we conceded a brilliant goal from the Barton defender which nothing could have been done to stop. We continued to attack with Fran and Marla causing problems all evening. The game ended level - a fair result. POTM went to Amelia for great covering and showing no fear when defending.
Well done, all.

World book day was amazing today. We had a mixture of comfy pyjamas and book characters. It was so great to see the variety of dressing up ideas! Children had a range of different activities to do throughout the day and had a brilliant time with books.

Year 5/6 Girls Football
National League Trust U11's Cup
We travelled to Yeovil Town's Huish Park to represent Torquay United AFC in the South West Regional Finals. We played Truro City , Bath City, Weymouth, Forest Green Rovers and Yeovil Town. We played everyone in the group stages and ended up finished 4th with 2 wins, 2 loses and 1 draw. This confirmed our place in the semi-finals after lunch.
We then faced Bath City, who finished 1st in the group. They were undefeated in the group and only conceded 1 goal. We worked on how to deal with long throws in the box during the break and we dealt with them really well with Marla in goal making some crucial saves. Mila grabbed the only goal of the game with a determined run and powered her way through everyone, gaining a lucky bounce off her into the back of the net. In the final, we played Truro City. Hitting the post with 30 seconds to play, the girls had to settle for a penalty shoot out to see who would win the tournament. Sadly, we lost 3-2 on penalties.
The girls should take away immense confidence and should keep their heads high. We are now the second best football team in the South West.
After showing really team togetherness yesterday, and the way they conducted themselves, we couldn’t be prouder.
Thank you to Dom from Torquay United Community Sports Trust for all the help and support.
2nd Best in Southwest.
Well done, girls.

Year 5 kick-started World Book Week with a virtual lesson organised by the British Library. We were joined by writers such as Michael Rosen and Sandra Asgard who told origin tales about mountains, forests and skies. The children were encouraged to think creatively to create their own characters that could be used in stories! Kingfishers were particularly pleased when they got a virtual shout-out!
